Capital Records Stereo Modulators

Never seen them either, what year were they, early sixties perhaps?

A bit later, I believe. Capitol started marketing non-record items in the early '70s, IIRC. I'd put these at about 1973-78.

Cars didn't start having rear deck openings for 6x9s until car stereo became generally available - and that wasn't until the '70s. (Although four track car stereo began earlier; but car manufacturers didn't get with the program until later)

The Billboard link is for a November 1966 issue.

Hmmm...guess I didn't "RC"! At any rate, in 1966 I think you'd have had to cut sheet metal on the back deck to install them...I still don't think there were provisions from the factory for dual 6x9s in '66...I could be wrong there too. I just remember cutting lots of metal in back decks and front doors installing speakers in the late '60s.

Interesting that those things were produced by Universal Tape Deck Corp. - a way-ahead-of-its-time company that produced an advanced 8 track player with unusual features that...um...didn't work. Besides Capitol, they private-labeled the units for Concertone and others, finally going bankrupt, reincarnated as Kalof Electronics, which also crashed and burned. Those goofy organ-pipe speakers may have contributed to their downfall.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to blow the drivers?

Add me to the "would really like to hear these - just 'cause" camp
