Car fuel filler door - Not everyone knows this-

I've rented a lot of cars while travelling and it helps to know which side of the car your fuel filler door is on. The fuel guage shows it with a little arrow on it. Check out your car and see what I mean. When I was first told about it I was like, wow, I never knew this.

I drive a lot of motor pool cars so I got in the habit of looking for that little arrow. I thought everyone knew. :D
 
I think that doesn't apply on my 1993 Explorer. The gas pump handle is on the right, yet the filler is on the left.
 
maybe its on new cars only ? just checked my 1995 mondeo and no arrow ..i have never seen an arrow on any car come to think of it .. the hoses reach both sides anyway .

Look to see what side the filler hose is on on the gas pump symbol; that's what I was told the trick was.
It holds true on my Focus and the Taurus, but not on the Explorer.

will look in the morning its cold and muddy out there . don't fancy looking again now .. i think the hose was on same side though .i noticed the pump was on the correct side too .
 
2005 Prius does this for me

If I squint hard in tiny letters under the gas gauge on my 1974 Dart it reads "don't worry sucker youll remember what side the door is on because youll be putting gas in it every other day".

Or something to that effect.

the arrows are exactly what they look like...gas goes in that side...if you don't have an arrow the bit about which side the hose on the gas pump symbol is on is by no means true...you got a 50/50 chance it's right,so many actually are,but it's far from a hard rule you can follow
 
I remember the first time I noticed this, as I drive a lot of rentals. Mind: blown. And when I show people I always get the same reaction. It's never been wrong in any of the rentals I've been in.
 
My '02 Trailblazer has the arrow. I never noticed it. Then again I won't buy a vehicle with the filler on the wrong (passenger) side relative to left-hand drive. Went through that with 2 Mustangs I owned in the early '80s, jockeying for position at the gas pump got old.
 
The Mark VII has an arrow. Handy, since its on the "wrong" side. Both my truck and my Towncar are on the left, the Mark is on the right. The fuel gauge on the truck is on the right side of the instrument cluster though, not the left.
 
why would any car not have the filler on the passenger side (right)... that way you don't have to worry about opening the car door into those stupid post (they put by the pumps to keep cars for smashing into the pumps i guess?)


but yeah my Cruze has an arrow pointing to the filler side. and happily the filler on the right side of car ...
 
Because it's not as convenient, you have to walk around to the other side leaving the driver side exposed to thieves. Plus the traffic usually flows on the right side of pumps if ther's any line, going counter to that causes problems sometimes. Other than that just pay attention and be aware of those posts!:yes: 45+ years driving, never done that.:thmbsp:

And what is the problem with just lookin' where it is when you have to re-fill?
Sounds like a hard job for most doesn't it?
