Cartridge Demagnetization, does this simple trick really work?

You do realize that if you demagnatize some cartridges you will have runied them RIGHT?
 
i think its foolish, the basic principles of a MM/MC phono cartridge uses magnets to function. Now a tape head, yes you do need to demagnetize every now and then.
 
I do realize that cartridges have magnets in them but they do sell Cartridge Demagnetizers. I have never tried one but have read some really good things about them, talked to a couple of people who swear buy them. I really dont know much about the process

does anyone else have experience with demagnetizing cartridges or could someone please explain how and why this works? thanks
 
this sounds strongly like nonsense to me. Grounding the cartridge out to itself should do exactly nothing.
