Cartridge for PLX55

Natron

:::::::::::::::::::::::::
(^^^^I meant PL-55X^^^^)

Hey everyone...

I am new here and somewhat to high quality vintage audio equip(But am becoming a fan pretty quickly) Tried searching, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I have a Pioneer PL-55X. I need to replace the stylus. The cartridge is a Empire 1000 SEX or SLX(Can't tell). Was this the original cartridge? How would you rate it's quality? Should I just replace the needle or get a new cart?

Thanks!

Welcome to AK!

It is not the original cartridge. Here is the exact replacement stylus.

The 1g median tracking force is really too light to be an ideal match to the arm, but obviously that wasn't a concern for the previous owner. Empires were excellent cartridges. The 239-DEC at the bottom of that page is less refined, but a better match to the arm. Other than that it might be better to consider a cartridge change.
