the effective mass of the arm fitted tot he technics is approx 12g
a humble nod for the poor man's cartridge...the at 95e is a lovely sounding cartridge if mated to the right mass arm and aligned properly.
It works well with medium to slightly heavish mass arms of which the technics arm is such...the cartridge has a claimed range of 8-14g which suggests it should mate well with the technics arm from a compliance point of view...
i've been a fan of the at95e for many years simply because it sounds much better than its price suggests and yet the stylus is very cheap to replace every 8 - 12 months when in constant use...approx £13 for a genuine new stylus
the shure i have no experience with but have heard many good reviews on this board about its performance...
an old review of the shure me97he which might be similar..suggests mating it with an arm whose effective mass lies in the range of 8-20g which according to article above makes the technics arm eligible...
if the shure you've mentioned has the same suspension then it should prove a good mechanical match too and sound good indeed..
choosing between either is a difficult call...the shure being a more expensive cartridge 'should' :scratch2: make better music than the at95e...but in my humble opinion the at95e takes some beating even at twice the price...
some reviews online have suggested that the linn k5 ( now discontinued) was basically a rebadged at95e and yup...it sold for twice the price
one factor to consider is the cost and availabilty of replacement stylus for either cartridge as a stylus will need changing at least once a year if you plan on using your deck daily for a few hours...or after approx 600-800 hours of use ...whichever is sooner...
whichever you choose...i'd recommend buying a spare stylus while you're making your initial purchase...their prices seem to keep creeping the 'wrong way' every year with more and more models becoming discontinued without notice :thumbsdn:
