Cartridge help for hearing loss

I've just had a hearing test that indicates I have a loss in the 4kHz - 6kHz range. (just bought an integrated with no tone controls. Drat) I know there are phono cartridges that have spikes or humps in the mid-treble; but I don't know which they are and the data is hard to find. If anyone knows; I'd be grateful. I was thinking maybe the AT440?

not necessarily a spike or hump in the FR, but pushing forward into the mix the higher frequencies, ATs would be my choice. Second choice would be the Denon 110, doesn't push them as far forward as an AT, but gives those frequencies a bit more distinction from the other frequencies. IMO the Denon 110 is the overall better sounding cart in keeping position of instruments in the sound field.
 
Thanks, marcmorin. I have the Denon DL-301. Would the 110 accentuate the higher frequencies more than the 301?

I think that's one of the major differences between to two carts, the 301 has much more control over the hi-freq in not letting it get a little exaggerated. The 110 sounds a touch "top heavy" to me, the AT 440 ooc or MLa, too top forward
 
My doctor told me the same thing at about the same frequency range, fortunately only in the right ear.

He claims it is an overuse injury and that frequency range is common for a woman's voice when she gets agitated or angry. :rant:

Excellent explanation!
I'd get a digital EQ, and set it up with different setting that work for you and the different music you listen to. Most have memory saved curves that you have set the way it sounds good to you. This way no matter what media you grab you can have it the best for you.
 
You could always put a EQ into the tape loop of your integrated....fine tune your system to your needs and enable or disable by pushing a button. Makes much more sense than trying to find a misbehaving cartridge.
No tape loop on the I32, for some stupid reason. Only TAPE OUT.

Gonna second this. You might end up muddying the wrong frequencies if you're really just looking for a very specific frequency bump. A parametric with adjustable slope would be perfect.

4-6k is also a very common crossover point, maybe it's time for some new speakers matching your ears? ;)

Thanks for the advice. My speakers (Canton Ergo 1002DC) cross over at 300 and 3500hz, so I think I'm OK there. I'll look into digital EQs.

That would be the best solution. You can adjust your system exactly to your needs.
 
How much loss, and how noticeable is it to you?
What I usually notice is a difference between Right & Left, and maybe less BASS on the left. I am not too unhappy with the status quo, and still enjoy listening very much. The range that I measure deficient in is mostly harmonics, so I don't know what I've been missing or how long I've had this loss.
I just scored a Technics graphic EQ and an AT14Sa for $100, so I can play around and see if it's worth addressing or if I should just listen and enjoy.
