I am new to the audiophile world( about a year) and have fallen in love with the different sound that speakers have as well as fixing up old gear to work and sound better. In the past year I have had Thiel CS 1.2, 2.2, Martin logan clarity, bose 901(sorry), ADS, cambridge soundworks T500 and heavily moded and reveneered klipsch Chorus .I recently scored a pair for 250 dollars in perfect condition with no buzz and the surrounds are all intact. Initially I was hesitant to get them as I have read that there are issues that can occur with the ribbons as well asdriving them, but I went out on a limb as it was hard to pass up the . to my surprise driving when I Bi-amped them with my pioneer Elite(150wpc into 8 ohm. I dont know what it is into 4ohm) there really isnt any issue with driving them. I do also have a smaller room which helps in that aspect.
This is my first time I have had dipole speakers as well. In respect to the sound I was amazed by the sound stage. It is slightly receeded but very full and lively with a slight darker tone to it. My brother is a musician and says that ribbon microphones are commonly used in recordingsmusic to get a darker sound. Iamquite satisfied with the low end being quick and deeper than my past speakers but I will need to starte adding absorbing panels to help combat some standing waves that this has caused. One thing I do struggle with is the fact that there is some imaging but it isnt what I am used to with box speakers and was wondering if this is common with dipole speakers. I was wondering if anybody has any tips with room treatment as well just general tips withthese speakers and possible mods I could do as well.
