Carver C-2 Headphone Output Reversed?

I recently bought a Carver C-2 preamp on ebay, in slightly rough cosmetic shape but purportedly good working order. Having used it for a week or two now that seems to mostly be the case, but there's one really weird issue: the stereo on the headphone output is reversed.

That is, the left channel content plays in the right ear and vice-versa. The balance knob on the C-2 operates backwards as well. The other outputs seem to be unaffected. I've double-checked that all my connections are the right way round.

Fortunately the C-2 has a reverse stereo setting, which is a fine workaround, but I'm wondering if anyone else with a C-2 has checked if theirs has the same strangeness? Or if anyone has any theories as to why mine does this?

I thought perhaps because the unit is a bit banged up, maybe a previous owner had been poking around inside to fix something and had connected the headphone jack incorrectly, but when I opened it up to check, I found that the headphone jack is soldered directly to a PCB and I didn't see any way it could easily be installed incorrectly.

Ha! My headphones are not symmetrical, so that's not really a good option. The stereo reverse setting on the C-2, however, is a lifesaver here (I never thought I'd actually have use for it, go figure!)

Still completely baffled by the issue. I posted on The Carver Site about it and nobody there has come up with any explanation either… Weird.
