I have one - nice pre - don't use the halographic imaging other than when I'm bored. I'd say half that absolutely tops - perhaps less if he's real
 
That seems VERY high. These often sell for less than $200. If you are patient you can find them in the $150 range. (Remember these are 30 years old now and should probably be recapped to perform up to spec)
 
I agree with the rest, while it is a great pre amp, remember parts will need replacing. Heres a price to compare with. I am getting mine fully recapped for 250 and it looks just as good as that one.
 
Since this is on ebay, price seems to be in line with what they`ve been selling for. I see many over $200 and a few $300+, including last one in EX cond w/box hit $399. I just put my C1 back in the system and pulled my Audible Illusions Modulus 2 out (wife can`t remember to turn off to extend tube life) and I am honestly not missing as much range as I`d thought, though the AI is the superior unit. I may have to recap it at some point, but if it`s a keeper, it`d be good to go 20+ years more. This one already walks over many SS pres out there that go for double sometimes.

If this is the one you want, email the seller and arrange to demo and go from there. Since there are no bids on this type of auction, it`s his right to end it early and I`m sure he is aware of what fees he`d be paying if it sold BIN.
 
Yeah $300 for an immaculate one of those is really not out of line. They go for $150-$250 in sometimes less than favorable condition all the time. If you want a museum example of this pre, then i would go for it. I would try offering $250 and offer to pick up in person granted everything works. It's an awesome pre amp, I love mine.

I bought the C1 preamp and the TL 3220 cd player as listed on CL for $100. They both needing cleaning of the exterior and have numerous nicks. They do sound pretty good to me. They drive Mc-30s and JBL L 166 speakers with ancillary JBL Le175s.
I haven't opened them up yet. But for $100, I'm quite happy so far.
