Carver CT-26V remote receive issue

The remote transmitter is working.

Here's what happens. I can't turn the unit on using the remote. When I power up using the power switch on the preamp, it responds to the remote for about 5 seconds then stops responding.

I have a service manual but its very poor for showing any static voltages.

Any ideas?
