Carver HR 895 crackling noise coming through

I picked up a Carver HR 895 receiver a while ago. I purchased it from and bought it from the original owner. They had kept everything except the box. All channels work, the surround modes work. I may use this in my tv room instead of my RX-V1400. There are a couple of issues. I heard that these units are prone to overheating and there has been a crackling noise coming through the speakers. It will start sometimes while playing music and persist even after it is shut off. The LCD Display is starting to go. Do any of you have experience with this unit?

I have one and use it solely as a stereo preamp for my ST70, a role in which it excels. I have no output from any of the power amp channels and my tech says this problem isn’t repairable due to unobtainable parts. I sure like it’s looks and apparent build quality. Wish I could be more help to you.

Late to the thread - just picked up the Carver HR-895 off FB Marketplace - FREE - guy said did not work ...but, after pulling jumpers, it works FINE with ext power amp -- the tuner is something out of NASA -- and sounds great ! So a great tuner-preamp !
