Carver M1.5T question

Actually, I have two questions...lol

1.) I am using the carver with a Mitsubishi DA-P20 preamp and a Carver TX-2
Tuner.....also with a pioneer 707 / and a couple of Tascam 133's...
The question is when I turn the preamp up to about 40...
It starts out at -70 and goes as high as 40 and then it goes back down to 1...
( hope I didn't lose you...check out a da-p and you'll see what I mean )
It's in laymans terms...turned up about 1/4 of the way...it seems to shutdown.
All the lights etc are on but no sound...?
oh yeah, forgot to mention...I am using Klipsch RP-3 speakers...
specs below for them....

frequency response 27Hz-20kHz±3dB
power handling 110 watts maximum continuous (300 watts peak)
sensitivity 95dB @ 1watt/1meter
nominal impedance 8 ohms
tweeter K-105-K 1" (2.54cm) Titanium dome compression driver
high frequency horn 6" square 90°x60° Tractrix® Horn
midrange K-1081-S 6.5" (16.51cm) Aluminum cone / cast polymer frame
subwoofer K-1082-K 10" (25.4cm) Fiber-composite cone

Is it possible I am over driving them and it is causing the shut down ?
The Carver amp lights don't move off the lower set...but I have seen them
go above that...so I know they are working...

Question 2...
The Carver is a magnetic field amplifier...
In what proxsimity (sp) should I be concerned with the "field" having and
effect on either a tape deck or a tv ?

Sorry for the rant in the first question but I was just trying to give as much information as I could to avoid a ton of questions...

Thank you for your support and help :music:

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand your first question. When you turn up you preamp, you say it is shutting down. From your description, it sounds like a protection circuit in your 1.5 is being tripped and you're not getting any output.

On the second issue, you needn't worry about the "magnetic" in magnetic field power amplifier. This was a marketing term used to describe their power supply configuration.

I've had several Carver amps including a 1.5 which was my first. I really enjoyed it. Later I had a pair of 4.0t's driving my Infinity RSIIb's.

On a m1.5t there is a protection circuit light on the lower left of the faceplate. Does this light turn on at the point of which you no longer hear sound? It indicates that the protection circuitry for the amp has been initiated.

How do you reset your system to play again? Do you have to wait for a while, or do you simply turn everything off/on?

I'd suggest after this happens, you cycle only one of the units, such as turning off/on the preamp, then seeing if you get sound. If not, cycle the amp and see if you get any sound at that point.

As for the magnetic field power supply, that's more or less a marketing term, and describes the type of power supply that Bob Carver designed for his series of amplifiers. You don't have to worry about an actual magnetic field affecting your other equipment, as that isn't the case.
