Carver TFM-45... need info on this amp

Your sda's will love that carver. The 45 is one of my favorite amps to power mine with as it has such a deep soundstage.
 
The Parasound is the better amp, at least according to (okay, often biased) reviews (Sterophile "B" rating) and selling prices. I own a Parasound preamp and the build quality is absolutely top notch. Power is comparable, the difference between 250wpc and 350wpc ain't that great.
 
Carver gets my vote. Being a proud carver amp owner of over 30 years now, I love there build quality and sound. With 3 Carver amps and 3 carver pre amps, none of mine ever let me down
 
You guys realize this thread is over 5 years old, right? It was resurrected by In Tune to ask about powering his Polks. I would imagine the question about whether to go with the Carver or Parasound was answered a long time ago.

Thanx for the info! Perhaps, I should have started a new thread, but I'm frugal and found this one in a search...either way, the story is this, I bought buy SDA/2bs, new in '89, also a new Luxman R-117 receiver, and that is what powered my Polks (very Limited Usage buy the way) for years. Then it died..(still have it though,need to get it fixed when and if I can afford that)..Then the SDAs sat for years...I did use them in a 5.1 setup with a cheap Kenwood rig for about a year,, Now moving forward,,I'm rebuild an entire new 5.1 system around the Polksters. I bought a refurb HK 354, and Now I am/was in the market for a good amp(within my budget) for the Main/Polks...Guess what? A Carver TFM 45 Is on route ! Needless to say Im STOKED!:banana:
 
UPDATE! I have had this Carver going on 3 yrs now, It's been nothing but a pleasure to own and hear with my SDAs,(upgaded to the new tweeters). I wish I had a better preamp/receiver though.. The Harmon354 is still in use with this system. Someday something better when cash permits.
Recommendations welcomed now though for that day. Would still have to be Budget minded...

That's great news about the Carver, I just bought last week a recapped Carver TFM-45 and in the middle of total overhaul of music room. Hope to have the room finished in about a week or so, am really looking forward to hearing this amp.

Glad the TFM is working out for you, In Tune. Are you looking for a straight 2 channel preamp or something to run the Polks as fronts in a HT setup?

That's a great question! I usually prefer to listen to my music, in TWO channel configuration,(can do that with the Harmon,or 5channel, sometime works pretty nice). How about both ways, Is there a switchable way to do it?(assuming within a certain budget).By the way, not running a SUB, Polks do low end like nobodys business!:thmbsp:
