Carver TX-11 — cutting out, strange behavior

mswer

Needs some space to think
Hi all-

I have a Carver TX-11 that I've been using and enjoying for some years, but recently it started doing this weird thing where it will drop the signal and just play static, and the controls just stop responding. If you press any of the preset buttons, they light up for a moment but the station doesn't change; all other button presses do nothing (can't change station, etc.). Sometimes this will just happen for a few seconds over hours of listening, other times it will stay in this state for hours or days. Nothing external seems to be changing before it starts or after it stops; power-cycling does not do anything. Whenever it resumes normal functionality, nothing has changed — it remains on the same station, all the presets are still programmed, etc.

The behavior is a bit hard to describe, but it's in a phase where it's going in and out of this pretty frequently and I managed to grab a video.
It's here on YT, only 30 seconds but because I'm playing commercial radio I think it may get deleted from there automatically even though it's unlisted:

In case it does get deleted or this is easier, I uploaded to imgur with sound as well: https://imgur.com/a/ITXnNfD

Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks for your suggestions

There is a few good Carver techs on "TheCarverSite" a forum dedicated to all things Carver.

Mswer, try spraying your power switch with DeOxit Fader Lube. Had a TX-11 with similar symptoms, & Fader Lube spray cured it. Had to clean power switch annually, though. TX-11 has since been replaced by Sangean HDT-1X. ... 73s para Sactown

That's great news, thanks for the suggestion. It's funny you mention Faderlube, Bill had recommended TheCarverSite and I just got my account confirmed over there the other day and was reading this thread about using Faderlube, instead of/in addition to Deoxit D5, which is always what I use: https://thecarversite.com/topic/24903-deoxit-or-what/

Made me think it would be worth getting some Faderlube in addition to the D5 so I had just ordered a can. I'll give your suggestion a shot and report back.
