Cassette deck wont switch off

So today i purchased my first vintage stereo system, which consists of a panasonic su-2800 amplifier, panasonic st-2800L tuner, panasonic SL-H304 turntable, two panasonic 635 cassette decks and a pair of wharfdale laser 20 speakers. The problem im having is that one of the cassette decks wont switch off, when the switch is on the vu meters illuminate and the capstone starts to spin, but when i switch it off, the vu meters dim slightly and the capstone still spins, the other deck doesn’t do this and actually switches off, any ideas on how to fix this? The previous owner had cut all the plugs and connected them all together with a terminal block so that it only takes one socket, which i had to undo to get the separates out of the cabinet and reconnect, although im sure I connected them back correctly as its hard to mix brown and blue wires together. Any help will be appreciated, also any advice on how to better this system will also be appreciated.

So, all the browns are connected to the same terminal & all the blues to another terminal? Do all the other components respond correctly when you switch them on/off?
 
Yeah, i made sure they were connected correctly, then insulted them some more with electrical tape, everything else works fine, it seems to be intermittent, sometimes both the vu light and the Capstone is on, sometimes just the light or just the capstone, earlier it was off but the vu meters stayed at half way, at the moment it seems to be fully off, its a really weird issue.
 
It sounds like the power switch on the deck is sticking. Possibly it can be cleaned, or it might be too far gone. Look up "deoxit". You could add an external switch to the cord or maybe find a replacement switch. Decks where the capstan runs all the time do need to be turned off.

BTW, it's "capstan" not capstone, and "insulated" not insulted. Your spell checker isn't helping you as much as it thinks it is!

Ill have to open it up in the week and see if i can do anything for it, definitely dont want the switch to be sticking, Apart from that the system couldn’t be in any better condition, it even came with the original panasonic branded cabinet, only cost me £75 for the lot. thanks for the corrections, im posting these from my phone and the autocorrect really isn’t doing me any good.

Sometimes a good insult toward the system can relieve some frustration :D
On a more serious note, it does seem like the power switch isn't disengaging properly.
A thorough clean might help but you may need to replace it if a deox doesn't help.
I've had a similar issue on an old amp with a push button style switch. My issue was the opposite to yours where I had to keep pressure on it, even after it clicks in, to make contact. If I let go it arcs slightly as the contacts are so close trying to make.
