Cassette playback problems

I recently acquired a Yamaha KX-W602 off of eBay. Playback sounds fine on a prerecorded cassette, but when I play some recordings I made for my new album on cassette, it sounds super muddy and horrible. I recorded the cassette on a kenwood machine that forced me to rerecord many times because of this stupid dip in volume that happened very frequently in a track, for very short periods of time (quarter of a second to three seconds). With the exception of Deck A not working properly, it sounded fine, and I had no problems other than the ones I just mentioned, thus I am confused on why my recordings sound so bad all of the sudden. I even compared the pitch of the cassette to a live version, and, as far as my ears can tell, it sounded pretty in tune. I really don't want to rerecord all of my tracks if I don't have to, so I need quick help.

yikes. confusing. you have Yamaha, kenwood, and Deck A? Yamaha has problems with record then playback?
kenwood has dropout problems on record. does kenwood recorded tape play well on Yamaha?

sounds like you need to clean the decks (all three), then demagnetize the heads of all three. then your
test cassette MUST be matched (bias, equalization, dolby) to the controls on the recording deck
for both recording and then playback.

test a pre-recorded tape on all three decks, should sound identical (at least no problems) then
one cassette recorded on any one of the three decks should playback on all three.
 
And make sure the recorded on cassette has a good pad in the center of the exposed side so the tape is pressed against the head properly. Not at all unusual for this little pad to come loose.
 
Well, I didn't really fix it. I decided that I probably had a crappy cassette deck that I recorded on before, as this one sounded so much better in every way. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
 
You are correct. Kenwood only made 2 good cassette decks, the KX-1030 and the KX-1060. All the others have been junk, especially the 2 well decks.
