Cataloging database

Anyone have a database application that they can recommend?

I'm thinking about cataloging my collection - CDs, LPs, 45s, MP3, AAC, and a handful of surviving tapes. All sorts of sources - commercial release, private distributions, downloads of live concert recordings, you name it. It would be nice to find something that includes some sort of search facility to get all sorts of info like: track names, artists, composers, label and their number, release date, etc. to avoid having to key all this stuff in for every item. Also (maybe) the flexibility to add my own info fields.

Also any recommendations about features that I should look for?

Thanks. That's interesting, but I'm thinking I want a database local to my PC, not on the the web.

Once it's in Discogs, you can export it to XML or Excel spreadsheet format. If your records are already in Discogs, it makes it much less labor intensive to enter them as well. Add to this the fact Discogs is free and there is also a nice free mobile app for Android, and those things make it right for me.

jRiver Media Center does a nice job. Automatically downloads the tag info for new rips and either appends that to the file or stores it externally in an XML sidecar. It also automatically imports new media files to the database once they're parked in your "watch" directories, and has a decent search function, custom playlists, and import/export features ...

Bonus ... it plays music! :D

The cool thing with the community based solutions is that you help others when you add a new release. And you get free quality control :)

I joined Discogs and messed with it a little. I like the community pluses. I like the idea of having my wish list on my phone. But, there's not much detail in the export file. And any solution to report or search on the exported data on my end would have to be developed by me - just don't have the time or inclination to do that.

Interesting. Wish they had an Android version.
They have something for Android, although I'm not sure how it works.

CLZ Music is a mobile viewer app, for browsing and searching music databases
created with the Windows or Mac edition of Collectorz.com Music Collector.

IMPORTANT: CLZ Music for Android is NOT a stand-alone music cataloging app!
This is just a mobile viewer add-on for the Windows or Mac edition of Music Collector.
