Cataloging LPs on an IPad--Best Practices?

It is time to catalog my growing vinyl collection . . . Imseemmto have bought several thrift albums I already have . . .

I want to do this on the iPad with no mobile connection other than local WiFi. So, I do not desire to use an online catalog service.

I am thinking about using the "Numbers" app so that I can import results to Excel . . .

Better ideas/best practices/suggestions?

I guess I'm not understanding why local Wi-Fi precludes the use of an online service (for which I recommend Discogs). However, if you're just dead-set against using anything online, I'd say any old spreadsheet would do.

No interest in using an online service, so I can have my iPad with me while traveling around to thrifts with no wifi service . . . And I do not do data on my cell.

So, simple question . . . Best way (or app) to catalog and view my LPs on the go on the iPad with no Internet connection?

I am thinking that app might be "Numbers," (iPad equivalent of Excel. But looking for better suggestions/practices than my simple idea of using a numbers).

Do you have access to a PC/Mac to sync with or is this ipad only?

If you have a PC, the Collectorz software is not free, but is excellent!

Ah, that makes sense.

Given your circumstances, though, I'd still recommend Discogs. You can export your collection to a comma-delimited or Excel spreadsheet any time you wish and download it. That would allow you to keep it online when you are connected, and have your catalog with you when you're not connected.

Plus, it's nice to be able to type in a catalog number and have the rest of the data filled in for you, rather than doing it all by hand for every entry.

However, if that doesn't work for you, then I don't have any other specific suggestions, sorry.

I also didn't want to use an online service (especially one you have to pay for). So I set up a spread sheet with Microsoft Word on my desktop computer. I have an HP Touchpad (dual boots webOS and Android) that I take to the record and thrift stores with my list on it so I don't buy duplicates. I have to convert the Word list to PDF (very simple) and then load it onto the Touchpad. I made 6 columns on my list Number, Artist, Album Title, Format (vinyl, reel to reel, etc), Condition and Genre. It works out perfectly for me. Hope this helps you.

Just joined Discogs and am trying it out. Loaded my first LP . . . After I get a few in, I will try the export to Excel and then to Numbers on the iPad and see if that works for me.

It is helpful that it loads album data for you.

Thanks.

I use Bento on my iPad.

Looks like this:

Try Discogs.

I can access my collection on my iPhone to verify what I have when shopping. Plus the whole ecosystem that goes with Discogs is very good. The sorting capabilities of your collection once loaded is very good.

I spent several months evaluating and thinking through how I was going to tackle this project and Discogs came out on top.
