Cats

Hi Kevin... are you the KC I know from Cupertino?

Anyway, I need to warn you: One of my Black Burmese was staring at my screen making odd noises as I was reading your post. I glanced over, and suddenly the cat was not there. Gone. Poof. I'm a bit concerned that the cat has entered your spacetime and is going to tamper with your world line as a result of your unfortunate post. It won't be the first time for this particular cat to do this kind of thing, taking justice into her own paws. Fortunately, she has a sense of humor, and so the results have been more embarassing than dangerous. Still, do keep your eyes open, particularly when sleeping, until this all blows over.

Sorry for the lame joke. I would never really do such a thing. I will delete it.
I live in Alaska for near 40 yrs, born in Butte MT and raised in Seattle. I have a 1st cousin Kevin Corr in McArthur CA.

Oh, you don't have to delete it. I'll try my best to call my kitty back, but who knows?

Hey Ken, is that how you got your avatar? Someone snap a picture of you, the 1st time the Black Burmese went poof? :scratch2:

Now generally, my cats have left my gear alone. Other than sleeping on an amp, for the warmth. But, there was this one particular M&K sub that they hated. The grill on that sub was eventually torn to shreds. They must have been NHT fans, as they never touched my VT-1As, or VT-1.2s... :thmbsp:

I sold my Vandersteen 2CE speakers because my black cat liked to jump on them. Various cat'off sprays didn't work at all, just made ME sick. That was about a dozen years ago. Still have the cat.

A method I use for all my furniture, speakers, etc., is to get some long skinny balloons, like are used to make balloon animals, and attach them with tape to any surface I want the cats to leave alone. When they scratch and pop the balloons, it is as if God Himself told them to cease and desist. Works great, and good for a really deep belly laugh if you happen to see the results.

Best regards,

QEMaster

Make sure that you have a good scratching post and put catnip on it. I have also used a specialized double sided tape called Stickypaws, this works pretty well also. I wouldn't use it until you actually see the cat touch them and then apply them on just the grill cloth. I have three cats and three sets of tower speakers with not a problem.
I declawed one of my cats years ago and would never do it again to another cat. It's pretty much the same as taking someone's fingers off. I would rather not have a cat than to put it through that much torture again.
I really like the balloon trick that gemaster suggested.

My cats are worth more to me than any pair of speakers, I decided I could get another free cat just about anytime. The wife on the other hand......

Count me in as a big fan of a scratching post alternative for indoor cats. Mine has scented the speakers & everything else in the house including the dog by rubbing her face on things but thats about it unless you're a plant on a high shelf.

Ja!, funny thing, i never though on that.

The Coke can trick will also work maybe. Put some pennies in a can and rattle it when cat comes neat speakers.

Declawing is cruel/inhumane. I just get a squirt bottle with some water. Sometimes, I booby-trap things with stainless steel lids to pots or pans. They associate that noise with loud and Clang-y, and don't go near it.

A couple of things I learned about cats recently: Cats shed the outer sheath on their claws on a fairly frequent basis, less than one month. Cats have scent glands between the pads on their feet that they use for marking territory. I have a few here and none of them can open a beer or spin a record. They do, however, keep the rodent population down.
