Hi All,
Months ago I acquired Akai CD-62 for few bucks. It has two PCM56P dac and 5532 opamps . Gearless mechanism, linear tracker. Overall, good sounding player.
It was working fine 'till last week. Its getting difficult to read discs and player had to warm up a little bit to read anything. So I opened up and get readings with meter. Two 4700uf 25v power supply caps was totally gone, replaced with fresh ones. While I'm in there I replaced caps on the signal path too. I had different set of opamps lying in drawers. So I pulled 883N's and replaced 5532's with these. Also Focus Servo and Tracking Servo offsets adjusted to factory settings. Sadly don't have oscilloscope to adjust gains and balance.
Anyway, when work is done, I give it a serious listen. It is totally different player now!
I'm curious which one has a dominant effect on this difference. Opamp replace? Recap signal path? Offset adjustments?
Overall, I'm very pleased!
