CD-Player test

For me the sound track from Casino Royale should be considered. Especially the first two tracks "Casino Royale Theme" and "The Look of Love." The latter being the vocal by Dusty Springfield when she was at her best. Crisp clear recording that has you thinking you are there while it is being recorded.

We use it (both CD & vinyl) to test new equipment.

I have a special CD-R that I have ripped soley for testing components/systems. Funny enough, it's got 10 tracks. This CD-R is also used by my best buddy, a music producer, who sets up his various systems with these tracks.

I also use the same vinyl equivalents for turntable setup/tweaks.

I made a test Cd & recommend following tracks

1. Almost anything by Paul Simon to test sibilance (I use Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes)
2. Cassandra Wilson - Blue Light till Dawn - Black Crow -has a bass line that really tests speakers low end
3. Moloko - Time is Now - test for vocals & bass line
4. Vinx - Rooms in my fatha's house - I'll give my all to you - Duet Arcapello track for sound stage & voice separation
5. Santana - Supernatural - Migra - for its ricocheting drums between speakers
6. Ry Cooder - Meeting by the River - Ganges Delta Blues - Quality recording

There's more tracks I can recommend but I also find if you listen to foreign music in a language you don't understand you listen to the actual sound & not the words so it can help in evaluation
 
I just want to note that I did not forget this thread, but due to work load had to let it be for a while.

I am still planning to combine a CD-Player test record out of recommendations here and outside the net.
 
Acoustic guitar

Lately I've been using this.

It is a very detailed, well recorded cd. You can hear them breath as they pick and strum away at the strings.

Oh, and it's great music too! :music:
 
The Stereophile Test CD’s as I think they are:

CD 1; All-round gear test.
CD 2. Focus on CDP.
CD 3. Home Theater systems.

Correct me if I am wrong.
