CD Player Trim Pot Adjustment

Hello All,
How does one go about adjusting the trim pots in a CD player?
I bought a Cambridge Audio CD6 for very cheap and it does not play all CD's.
Is there a test disc or procedure I can follow to adjust it?
BTW I can't find a service manual anywhere online and that makes it kind of a guessing game as to which of the 5 trim pots on the board adjust what.

gotta know what is what. Any experienced audio tech can figure it out. Typically brands like Cambridge will use an oem mechanism and pickup. What you can do is clean the lens with a dry Q tip.

Adjusting CD player pots without an oscilloscope, DMM, test disc or whatever equipment is called for in the service manual can be pretty dangerous. You can easily put things out of whack without even trying. Even with my tendency to go mucking about where I don't belong, I'd stay away from anything adjustable in a CD player like the plague.

in most cases you and the other posters are correct.however in some instances it can work...i used to have an old sony that would skip randomly,having nothing to lose and not really caring about the player a slight tweak to the focus gain[ i think it was?] cleared it right up...tho too far one way or the other WOULD make it stop playing completely..my point here is that it can work...BUT if this is what you need to do,it is likely due to a failure elsewhere,like a laser on its way out,and it may only be a temporary or partial fix at best,it's not a maintenance procedure and should not need to be adjusted after being set up at the factory...something else has changed beyond tolerance if it requires it
