Center channel for Advent HT setup

I'm looking for a matching center for this setup:

Advent Prodigy II front mains
Mini Advent surround speakers - I could replace these with Baby Advents(one is being used as a temp center though

Carver HTR885.1 reciever - Dolby 5.1 processed through Sony E800

I know it's not a phenomenal setup, but you can't argue it being an excellent bang for the buck system when it all cost me about $300(reciever/processor included) X-D If anyone has an ear for a good center on this setup, let me know. I'm kind of at a loss for this since Advent wasn't a huge HT company back in its heyday. Any suggestions are appreciated. :)

I get the idea, but I'm not sure how I would execute that. I'm not sure I can list the Center Channel setting on the Carver to just say NO. I can check that though. I'm adding a sub to the system this evening as well, so that's a welcome addition. What is the benefit to running in phantom mode as opposed to having a dedicated center aside from easily avoiding mismatched tonal qualities?

Also..how does that center sound, moose? What model is it? The ones I found were dual full range whizzers.
 
The obvious match would be another Prodigy, no? :yes:

Next choice I was going to suggest was another small Advent, but it seems you already have that. IMHO you're all set. :music:

Phantom is great for music through surround. For movies you probably want to have the center speaker. The Boston VR910 is a really great all-around center.
 
the advent center couldnt keep up with my left and right double advents. sounded ok at lower volumes, but not quite the same sound. so i built a double advent center channel! a bass bin on either side of the tv, and a pair of tweeters stacked on top of the tv. NOW it sounds right!

I have a BA VR12 in my bedroom system and it's pretty phenomenal. I could check that out. I got the phantom mode working and it sounds...ok. The dedicated center is definitely better.

My only problem with using another small Advent as the center is that they're not shielded (widescreen CRT) :(
 
Well, I solved my dilemma. I said f' it and threw my Thiels on the fronts, the Boston VR12 as the center, Boston bipolars in the rears, and ditched the Advent idea altogether. I picked up an Acoustics Research MC.1 Holographic Imaging center to replace the VR12 in my room. I didn't need that big of a center for my room anyhow. Now, it sounds :thmbsp:
