Cerwin Vega D-5 Grill Fabric

First post but been following AK for some time now and hope the experts here can help.


I picked up a pair of CV D-5s at an auction. Cases are immaculate and I have just reformed the woofers. They sound good and I’m probably going to sell them but the grill fabric on 1 is slightly stained so I am considering my options:

1) leave them as is
2) replace with new fabric
3) dye the existing fabric

Replacing the fabric seems it would be difficult due to the adhesive used so I’m leaning towards dying (easier and cheaper). My questions are:

what would you do?
what material is used (dictates what type of dye to use)?

Any help you all can provide us much appreciated.

I replaced the fabric on my D7. It wasn't hard. There is a black flexible fabric that works well with audio, is easier to make tight, and only require scissors and fabric glue. I like the spray on contact cement. It is quite good. You wouldn't be able to dye it and have it worth without much more work trying to get the shade and tone right. If you got them for cheap, then replace. Otherwise leave them as a buyer fix, but price accordingly.

they are brown but concerned spray paint may clog up the fabric. Appreciate your reply.
