Efficient, 15" Woofer, dual mids, horn tweeter - these things are built for output. IMO they are at their best when used at loud levels, where you can really feel the chest-thumping effects of the big 15s.

That receiver should be plenty, unless you're talking about extreme volumes. You'll hit the limit of the receiver before you hit the limit of the speakers for sure. I've even taken my 240wpc M-2 to it's limits powering a pair of D-9's. That was pretty loud :thmbsp:

thanks for the reply Chris...loud is just how i like it but i cant say the same for my neighbors lol

Your neighbors will definitely not like your speaker choice.

At 90lbs a piece, when they see two people carrying each one into the house, they will probably move anyways.... :)

I just got my first pair of d-9's a couple weeks ago, woofers had been reconed about 6-7 yrs ago original owner told me,Also told me that cerwin vega will recone them for free, you just have to pay shipping, thats what he did.Make sure the tweeters are working, both were dead in my pair, but i was able to take them apart and solder the leads back on to the voice coils,it was not easy, and they probably dont sound like they should now,but they work.So the circuit breaker for the tweeter must not protect them from an amplifier that is clipping! Also dont grab on to the little stand thats on the bottom of the cabinet when moving them,as they will break off, original owner broke one while moving at some time. They will rock!!and the bass is amazing! but they are harsh and in your face,I had them in my garage a few days and if you can get far enough away from them they sound better,i just put them in my smaller living room and they just seem too big and harsh mids and highs, the mids sound more like tweeters to me,ive had to turn down the lpads for the mids and highs.Gonna throw in some new caps and see if it helps the mids.Im kinda unsure if i like mine or not, they do rock! and shake the house !! but there not very accurate.I think i'll hang on to them for awhile, and if i had them in a BIG living room or basement or throw lots of parties i would never get rid of them!!! They will impress you with there volume!!I got $125 in mine and thats about what you will have if you refoam yourself,There a lot of speaker and sound for that money! Im running mine as a second system powered buy a 150 wpc fisher for when im feeling like some hard rock!!

For 100 bucks, that is a deal. They will plop you off of your listening chair, if the source material is right.

That's really interesting that they used to offer that. I guarantee they no longer do that since they were bought out by Stanton '04, then last year Gibson bought Stanton. Also, as of late, I've noticed Cerwin Vega's owners have all but abandoned their facebook page, and didn't ever respond to my email about replacement speaker terminals. My best guess is they're being drained dry by Gibson.

I agree with the opinions here. I have a set of D9's and D7's. IMO you almost need both, one set for low volume listening (D7's) and the D9's when you want to rock out. The D9's are OK at low levels but really shine once your 1/2 way through a bottle or case of your favorite beverage and feel like re living your favorite concert.

OT but a year or so ago the local craigslist had two pair of D-9s stacked and bolted together (WMMTTMMW style) with custom grills.

I guess one pair isn't enough for some.

it is easy to refoam just take your time

Agreed. These are way easier than most other speakers. My advice would be to get a kit that also comes with replacement dust caps. If you shim the voice coil, then you are guaranteed not to have rubbing when you are done. You don't want voice coil rubbing when you are pumping tons of power through these. That does require replacing the dust cap however.

Some pics from my refoam:

The only problem is that my kits didn't come with replacement gaskets, and it was impossible to save the old ones. I just left them off.

I had two pairs also at one point. I hauled both pairs to my friend's house up in the mountains, where there are less neighbors. They just worked so much better in that situation, with room to breathe. I ended up giving my friend a deal and sold him both pairs. Made for some fun parties.

Or you can leave a 1 inch flap on the dust cap and when the re-foam is done the dust cap will drop back exactly into place. A little bit of glue and you can't tell you had it apart.

I own a pair of D9's and DX9's. I don't understand how so many people say they (most CVs for that matter) are not "accurate" speakers. What reference speaker are CVs compared too? My D7's have more bass than my Klipsch Heresy II speakers, but I would not go so far as to say which speaker is better overall. It's all subjective, really. My pairs of DX9's and D9's will beat your brains out without a sub. Now I need a dbx 120 Subharmonic Synthesizer!

LOVE my D-9's !!! When you really want get loud and rock hard there is no substitute.
(Note: NEVER refoam without using the red/orange surrounds)

My D9'a are refoamed in Black/Gray or whatever the color is. I would rather have them looking "traditional" CVs. But they were a refoamed right before I bought them and I am not going to refoam them just for cosmetic purposes. They still sound awesome.
