Cerwin Vega D2

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. Like many of you I cruise the thrift store and occasionally score a bargain. A recent find is this pair of Cerwin Vega D2 speakers in excellent condition (cabs look minty). The only thing I had to do was replace the foam surrounds:

Manufactured May 1987 as stamped inside the cabinets. I must say they sound pretty good. I remember CVs having a reputation of being loud, but these are quite pleasant to listen to all types of music. Maybe it's the 10" woofers.

I'll post other recent finds in new threads.

Thanks for looking

Any idea what they are worth nowadays?

That's a good score...
I have the big brother D9 with the 15 inch woofers I have four of them I purchased in 1986...
D1 , D2, D3, D5, D7, and D9 are becoming collectible they are well built....
And you would be hard-pressed to go out and find something that sounded better....
I suggest you put some new Foam on both woofers and enjoy those...
You're not going to make money on them and if you do go out and buy any other speakers I'd like to hear back from you to see if you can find something as good.
You should keep those

Common sense says yes sure you can find better stuff you can pay more money and there's always something better... But in all reality what you have there is something of a quality that doesn't need to be replaced

Also with cabinets looking like brand new like yours and their dust covers... I would say those are keepers since they're so beautiful.

Prediction: Cerwin Vega horn loaded speakers like this D series will soon become popular with the low budget fleawatt SE tube amp crowd .

Think; audio cheapskates (meant in the best possible way) who salvage SEP amps from old consoles, and need high efficiency box speakers for them. CVs are perfect for this!

Listening to an old RCA 2-wpc SEP amp right now, through D2s, and while not as refined as through Goodmans Ministers or Mission 700 LEs, it is the first time the amp sounds LOUD and like it has loads of headroom.

Looking for a single 10" woofer to match the Cerwin Vega D-2. Any suggestions on websites or other places to search? Thanks!

same story here. Picked up a set cheap and have used them for years. I was just listening to them again tonight and they sound really good. Im missing one of the speaker grills with my set but i dont mind. I am hoping to find that grill some day but im not holding my breath.
