Cerwin Vega D5 midrange upgrade

Hi everyone

So recently ive obtained Cerwin Vega D5 for my curiosity of their popular bass response, i need to know if there is a possible way to upgrade the midrange cause i think its too dark or muffled for my liking? I saw one parts in simply speaker

Will it make the midrange better? Im used to klipsch midrange and tweeter, and decide to go for cerwin vega cause i need a speaker that can do hard rock and klipsch just dont do that at all

Looks like a good replacement. sealed back will prevent Woofer interaction, and price is right. Might as well recap them while inside.
 
These speakers have, I believe, poly caps. Recapping is unnecessary. I had them, I liked them, sold to a friend. He loves them.

Also, I don't think you're gonna get what you want changing that midrange. Too many variables, imho.

Since God lives in the midrange, why not consider some other speakers?

Hope others will chime in.
 
While looking at the specs on the Vega's, those replacement mids don't have a high enough 91DB Efficiency depending which specs you can trust
one lists 94 DB, another lists 99DB efficiency. So that's going to narrow your choices quite a bit. not too many 5-6" mids have 96DB ratings the stock mids show 7.2 Ohm dc rating
might want to check the ones you have, and try to match them so that the x-overs work close to spec.

FaitalPRO M5N8-80 5" Neodymium Professional Midrange 12 Ohm
While they are pricy @125$ each from parts express, these would most certainly be an upgrade.
You would also probably need a couple of L-pads
as these being 98 DB efficient would be louder than the woofers.
But only you can make the decision if the Vega's might be worth the investment.

I like how it responses and the only problem is the dark midrange,its like the singer is wearing a mask,or is it bot normal? Cause i have no idea how it sound originaly

Oh this is damn pricey for the both and might not work? I mean with extra modifying

yes it is but compared to Used good mids say for 4312's about the same.
But I know Vega's don't have any where the same resale as some JBL's.
If you search out used Vega mids, they could be just like your's with less than satisfactory results.
are the cabinets, woofers, and tweeters perfect? might just want to pass them on , and get something else.

I did try the reissue JBL L100 but i kind of disliking how the bass reacts and its damn harsh as well, anything you can recommend on the JBL? Thanks sorry this might be off topic
 
You have New L-100's and don't like the Bass response? Sounds like you need to be creative and move them around Quite a bit.
then adjust the controls.
What are you using as a source and power? the new 100's are nothing like the Classic's. Far more balanced.
As far as JBL's go I' Like the Monitors, The 4430's are pretty dam good, but condition is everything, Not cheap!

Nope i dont own one just have the opportunity to test the speaker, my dad used to have the 4333A which as he remembers best way to listen to rock,its really hard to come by and its almost impossible to find it in my country
 
What country? You might be better off with Tannoys!
the 4430's are more common and 2 way, have a better horn than the Pro versions of the L-300's the 4333's, a 3 way.
you never did state what you use to power them. Room size is also important.
Your worried about spending $250 on improved replacements mids for the CV's, and you are looking at $ 4-K L-100's and 4333's?
The $7-K 4343's are even better a 4 way.

In this discussion i will be saving more i mean way more cause i dont think i can afford it, i mean i dont want to spend 250 om a speaker that i i bought for 300usd (yesh in Indonesia its very expensive) and with a little probabilty that it might be good

Down here we have JBL 4341 for 10k so its a serious, for me i now i used quicksilver full preamp and an adcom 555 power, and a klipsch chorus 2, tangent 500 and tangent 4000, those speakers doesnt do good on rock or metal even with subwoofers, the woofer doesnt have the kick

Have you cleaned the L Pad with Deoxit?
Those old variable resistors can get corrosion and interfer with the signal to the high frequency section.
