Need some help here --I have a chance to buy a very nice pair of Cerwin D9's
Woofers refoamed, cabinits beautiful but the grills are in fair condition --not up to my standards.
Anyone here know where I can send the grills for a professional redoing with the original fabric?
Need an answer fast ---as I need to get back with the seller and say Ya or Na.
I want them but will not buy them if the grills cannot be PROFESSIONALLY REDONE.

D9's are not for everyone but they can rock a room like few others, if the price is right buy them and if you don't like them it should be an easy flip.....Grill replacement is really pretty easy......:thmbsp:

If you don't want to DIY the grilles, I don't see why any upholstery shop couldn't do the job.

I have re-done them on my LS-12's Easy as pie... if you decide against it, send me the posting for it ;) I may be interested lol!

As well as the grill cover question in my original post --I would like your feedback on these speakers from a sound standpoint.
I will be pushing them with an Echowars restored Pioneer SX-1250.

D-9s sound pretty good, but their claim to fame is efficiency. Powered by an SX-1250, they'll make yer pants legs flap.

An SX-1250? You'll probably blow you're windows out. Those CVs are not the most 'refined' sounding but they're terribly efficient. A few watts will send your significant other out of the room. lol

Yup.:thmbsp:

They will surprise you at lower listening levels as well if you get them placed right. Sometimes raising them off of the floor a bit will yield a completely different sound. It's like getting multiple speakers rolled into one.

I second the above. The D-9s are efficient but not the most refined sounding. They're fine on most pop/rock/dance music. Don't expect too much if you are a critical listener.

I dunno, they actually do sound pretty nice. Obviously they're not Theils, but they aren't that bad either.

Never owned, but I have heard a pair. Very clear and crazy efficient like the others say. As it is CV the bass can be boomy, but consider these like the Bose 901's (dont kill me). The rest of the brand is ok, but these are the holy grail. There are a model or 2 better than the D-9's but overall, for the money, these are very good sounding CV's

I have owned my perfect D9s for a couple of months now and I love them. An SX-1250 would be perfect for them--if you want to blow down your house !!! (just kidding). The grill cloth is kind of a brownish color ( looks like regular speaker cloth to me); plastic emblems are in the upper left corner.
Hope you use them in fairly good size room as they will not be at their best in a 10X10 bedroom. Good luck and let us know how your like them !!!!

i had a set of d9's for awhile that i gave to my brother. i called them my van halen speakers. great for rock. people bash cv's but i thought they rocked. can't imagine what they'll do with an sx-1250.

Boomy as in nothing an EQ can't cure or some port fine tuning?

An EQ or positioning does the trick. My LS-10's were very Boomy when on the floor even 2 feet from the wall. I placed them on steel stands 14" off the floor and they cleaned up so well I am able to place them 1-2 inches away from the wall!

Some folks write off CV's out of hand. That's okay, more for me.

You will have to go out of your way with really bad placement or bad source material to not get good sound out of these.

And, grill fabric is still available from multiple sources. Any speaker repair place could recover them. Heck, any granny with a big enough kitchen table could.:D

Back in the '70's, one disco had a CV four speaker with folded horn sub setup that sounded unreal, although it was disco and the Bee Gees and Donna Summers. Boy, was it loud. :)
