Cerwin Vega D9

I was offered a pair of re-foamed Cerwin Vega D9's for $150.00. I have a Marantz 2245 receiver and have been holding out for some Dynaco A25's or 35's, but the prices on those are out of control by me. I am currently using a pair of JBL 2050's I picked for $20.00.

Thoughts on the quality and price of the D9's?

All I know is what I read on the interwebs...I guess they are good rock/party speakers.

Already re-foamed D-9's for $150??? As long as the other drivers work and even if the cabinets look like they have been dropped out of a truck at 60 mph--run, don't walk--even if you don't necessarily like them, you can't lose anything.

I have a Mint pair of D7's that was my 1st Pair. Worked at Crazy Eddies (1984) and the D'7's were my goto speakers to demo.
The crossovers I had rebuild as to re-foamed the woofers.

They are actually in excellent condition, the only thing I would say is that re foam job wasn’t the cleanest, but it doesn’t seem to affect the sound at all.

So when are you going to (or already have) picked them up? BTW, if the sloppy re-foam job annoys you, its only another $30 to re-do them right.

Heading over at 11am today to snap them up. I went there to look at some Polk Monitor 7B’s, but they were asking $275 and I really wasn’t that impressed with them (for the price). I have a big space these will be going into so I think this is the right call. Especially for the price.

I would concur that you are making the "right call"--the price is certainly below market (at least in my area), and they are very efficient and will easily fill a large space with sound output. C-V's get a bad rap as "party speakers only", but it is based on the fact that they were fairly inexpensive back in the day (as compared to JBL's and Pioneer HPM's), and every college dorm or fraternity house had at least one pair being powered by some crappy receiver with the loudness engaged, the bass and treble cranked and the volume set "at 11"--under "responsible hands" they can sound quite respectable.

D9s fall in the same catagory as HPM 100s,L100s and the like to me.Look what those speakers are bringing... $400-$800.$150 is a steal.

I own L100's and am seriously considering selling them, since they are going for insane prices these days--almost every Eprey listing is >$1K right now.

So true.
I've never heard them myself but some people really like them and they go for big bucks.

I have a pair also that have been on the fence for some time.

I have not heard the D9 either but I do have some vintage CVs (317p) that I prefer over the L100 or HPM 100.So to me its makes those $150 D9 speakers a deal if that's what your looking for.
