hello everyone i have to original cerwin vega sen surround power amplifier. cerwin vega A-2200 IS THE MODEL. and i recently got 1 cerwin vega 18 model number 188eb. well i was wondering if any one knows the model number to some of the original sensurround woofers they were using back in the 70s in the movie theaters for the movie earthquake.


Here is a list of 18 inch tranducers that will give you the best performance when using Scoops/Rear Loaded Horns & Earthquakes/Folded Horns

The 188EB is not a subwoofer. It is designed for use in full-range systems using a 5 cubic foot ported box tuned to ~50Hz, like the PD-18 3-way system.

The original Earthquake woofer was the 189E as used in the Sensurround horn cabinets.

Cerwin-Vega called it the L-48SE in their 1977 Pro brochure. The "SE" meant "Special Extenders" that were included to make the horn longer. it consisted of a full sheet of plywood and end pieces that were used with a pair of these cabinets laid down side-by-side making them 8 feet widex21" high. The 4'x8' plywood sheet connected across the top front edge pointing up at an angle with fitted pieces on the left and right completing the horn extension. There is a picture of these installed somewhere on a speaker forum. I'll look for it and re-post it here if I can find it.

Here is a genuine dimensional drawing of the Sensurround Model M (Modular) cabinet as shown in the article I posted above.
It is labelled "L 48 SE" which is the model number Cerwin-Vega gave it in the Professional Products line.
The horn mouth extender is separate from this drawing and can be constructed using the dimensions in the article above.
Corner installation requires a different extender to fit the corner and close off the top of the stack. It is not shown in the article above.

Note the added vertical brace dividing the two horn paths in the 2nd drawing view.
This brace is not present in the early version of the Sensurround cabinets.

Oddly, the dimensions are expressed in centimeters.

This has all been so amazing to read and learn about. I just hauled 8 of these home into my garage from a remodel I was doing recently at a local, what used to be, nightclub. After seeing what was in the monster M cabinets and going down the rabbit hole of these forums and stuff it's blown my mind. I'm not sure what I'll be able to do with all of them. I might keep 2.
