Cerwin Vega Surrounds? Paint them or get the proper parts?

Anyone have good results (or even tried) painting foam surrounds?
I`m currently working on some Cerwin-Vega 15" woofers and thinking of painting these typical grey replacement surrounds a reddish/orange to get them as original looking as possible. Any advice appreciated.

you will cause them to become too stiff, and they won't sound like they are supposed to. Not to mention the paint may react with the material and eat them up.

They do make the original orange surrounds for them. I can't remember, but seems I've heard using generic grey surrounds aren't the same material, and not a good replacement.

I have some 12" and 15" CV surrounds in my personal inventory. Actually they are orange coated grey foam. Even the originals are made the same way.

The coating does seem to stiffen the surround anyway. However, you would be guessing you got the right paint. Certainly, water based would be the only way to go if you do decide to give painting a try.

Suggest you find some authentic CV surrounds for a backup if the paint job turns into a mess.

Will go for C_V surrounds

Thanks a bunch guys.
The original woofer surrounds on these are orange on both sides and dust caps do not have the C-V logos....they are a mid 70`s model (217r) with a single, silver concave shaped horn tweeter and rear firing mid-range horn. Will need mid and high controls cleaned up. Looking forward to what these 50lb monsters are capable of!! *gives up-stair`s neighbor the evil eye*

Thanks again for your input.
