Cerwins with odd woofers - I think they are early version 317s

JummyX

Raised on Yamahas.
A friend called me today and told me he found some old speakers in a house he bought on auction. I crawled through some very dirty crawlspaces and found these face down. I am not a Cerwin fan but he told me whatever they were I could take them. They are both labeled Model 317 but one has a sticker over it changing the model to an S1. Veneer is in quite good condition. While in the crawl space he asked me to grab a couple "dumbells" for him. They are JBL 2461s with 2307 horns. He also gave me those which I know is a good score. These Cerwins have me wondering if I found something rare. Yesterday I found a beautiful pair of KEF 101s and I thought the weekend couldn't get any better. If anyone knows what they are seeing, please let me know!

I think you have a pair of speakers that someone replaced the original woofer with a couple co-ax speakers they had laying around. This is a Heathkit/Jensen Probably a nice sounding speaker if used on its own http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/...al_vintage_speakers_1960s_nice/images/606612/

I was thinking it looked like a coaxial setup but I have not found any pictures that matched it. I believe you are correct. Looks like it's time to take them apart. I appreciate your responses.

I know this thread is quite old, but i picked up a pair of Cerwin Vega speakers model 317. A google lens search say model S-1 which I've seen. Any info on why S-1 was stickered over 317? Thanks
