I have a chance to buy a pair of Boston Accoustic A-100 speakers for $60. They look in excellent shape from the pics. Good buy, great buy, okay buy? What do you all think?

I agree that the A-150 is better but that is not a bad price if the surrounds are healthy. It's a good buy. Not great, as they aren't the best speakers ever made but they certainly are worth that and probably more to you once you hear them, depending on what you have. If you have better...well, then it's not a good buy, as they don't really do anything exceptional. They're just a good all-round simple speaker that does a great job of not doing anything to get on your nerves. The A-150, to me, is among the better bargains out there. The A-100 is the same size but a two way and I thought the A-150 had a better midrange, personally.

I'v had A40's 70's 100's 150's and 400's Personnally i like the 100's better than the 150's The mid in the 150 just never impressed me especially when you hear the mid in the 400 I look at the 100 as a reaally nice 2 way vs just an OK 3 way with the 150

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to meet the person at noon today and see what the surrounds look like and try to get him below $50.

Oddly enough I just grabbed a pair of these from someone about an hour ago. Surrounds are shot , the rest of the drivers look good. I thought It would be a good way to experiment and learn the art of putting on a pair of new surrounds. Grills are solid and the cabinets? ehhh 7/10 not pretty, not hideous. I'm sure I'll have questions once I get started. :)

willing to bet any pair you find needs surrounds if they haven't been done yet.
That is what makes them attractive to me, folks just about give away "blown" speakers...hee hee

I'd say that's a pretty good buy. If you can talk him down a bit it could become a great buy. My experience with the Boston A-series is that they're very, very nice speakers for the money.

I also say people are under rating the A-100. I have a lot of nice speakers and I was thoroughly impressed by the 100's mainly because of their imaging and clarity. Those expansive baffles and an excellent tweeter help achieve those attributes. I say these things acknowledging that I have never heard the 150's. But I have heard Large Advents, AR 2AX's, and Dynaco A-25's and I would rate the A-100 right there with any of them. Good luck! Franksta
