Changing lamps, Yamaha CR 2040 go boom.....:-(

I posted this in the Yamaha forum, but got no replies at all. Is this a better forum for this topic? (Sorry, trying to learn the ropes...)

Ok, so not that much drama but still my first major screw up.
I found this posting from a while back from someone else that explains almost exactly what I did,
"Just finished replacing all lamps in my cr-2040. I accidentally shorted the white and red wires that go to the upper 4 lamps which blew the 3A fuse. Replaced fuse and it blows as soon as powered up." (It's the 3A fuse farthest away from the heat sinks. The one that's closer doesn't blow. My edit)
I never was able to find a resolution to that posting though.
I am a total newbie to this fancy electronics stuff, just getting into swapping lamps and adjusting bias when able.
Schematics are starting to begin to almost make sense, so please go easy on me with the solution. I have rudimentary soldering skills and finally know which end to plug into a multimeter...
If anyone has any wisdom regarding this, I'd be grateful.

Welcome to Ak!

Pete?.. F902..?? guess?... You are one of the reasons I explore electronics and you're across 'the pond'. Other members etc. come up with these 'Gems' of insight. it's remarkable.

that is exactly what i was going to say check next after i knew it was f902 for sure .
good luck with it .

Hi Brian, Can you tell me where D912 is located?, I did the same thing you did and can't figure out which of the several diodes in the board is D912...

Have you downloaded the service manual from hifiengine.com? (ie: if its there) - that will show you component locations.

Also - when you power the unit up again - it should only be done thru a dim bulb tester - find instructions on this site for how to make one to prevent more damage

Yeah, I had the SM, but didn't see that diagram until I found another post that referenced it, hard to scroll around that SM! Thanks very much for the reply...
