Cheap transformer upgrade replacement?


I love this, avionic! I looked at the spec sheet schematic and please correct me if I'm wrong. I would jump red to red and black to black to get 115V input for the Primary coil and leave the purple alone. Then for the secondary, I would solder a green and blue wire from the transformer to the circuit board and then jump the remaining green and blue wire and attach it to where the original black wire is currently making it a series connection and supplying each channel with 24 V.

bottom blue -----> the second AC connection on the bridged rectifier --- > (yellow on your unit)

Thank you, avionic for checking over this for me! I really don't want to see any smoke when the switch is flipped. Even if it doesn't make a difference in sound, perhaps it will make a difference with shielding out some of the interference when the HVAC compressor kicks on. At the very least it will be an experiment.
 
Is the AC compressor on the same circuit as your CA amplifier ? Or in close proximity to ?

Not at all, it's on a separate breaker. The unit is on the opposite end of the house as well. The thermostat switch is in the adjacent room though. I took a look at the emi ferrite core data sheets. I'll have to see if I can find the frequency at which it runs at to find the correct core to use. Again, this has been quite helpful, thank you, avionic! I'm guessing that I would have to wrap it at the source of the noise for it to work.
 
I don’t know if this is any help but I’m 90% sure these amps use a single stereo “chip amp” ic like the lm1876 or Lm4766. These chips are pretty popular with diyers so you should be able to find others with a similar interference problem and hopefully find a solution. Do you get the interference with other amps? If so maybe have your electrical system and ac compressors checked.

Just to verify.. On the input side, I will connect the two twisted reds to the single red, and the two twisted blacks will go to the single black wire which will plug into the power supply board.

For the output, (A) yellow will go to (1) green on the new transformer
(B) yellow will go to (4) blue
(C) or (D goes to star ground) Black goes to (2) blue and (3) green

For the blue and green center tap, should I connect it to the actual star ground (D) black wire, or (C) black wire where the original transformer was connected? Does it matter? I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.

Thank you again, avionic for the reassurance. I've destroyed many things in the past involving electricity. I marvel at the people like you and other members on here who can design complex working circuits and have the know how to improve on its design. I cant wait to get it secured in the case and have a listen!
 
I cut out the wires to the old trans, desoldered the lines, soldered the new leads in, and put some liquid electrical tape on the wires to keep it secure.
Listening impressions? Noise is less when the compressor kicks on, but it is still there. Music wise, the low end is still lacking. Maybe it will sound better after running it for a while. Funny enough, the old one to my ears anyway, started to sound richer. Maybe this one will settle in too once its been given some time.
 
The toroidal transformer installed. I disconnected the usb input on the back, but left the wire there just in case a dentist office wants it to stream some Kenny G to pipe into the waiting room and the drilling stations. The photo is a couple stops underexposed but I think it's par for the course.

The information posted earlier suggested the original was reasonably commensurate for the design. So, I'd like to say I'm surprised at the result that it didn't do much, if anything, but then I'd be lying...
