hows it sound?
after being left on for a whole day the sound has improved a bit and the lazy stereo decoder woke up. at first when in stereo, the unit would mute its audio completely. after a bit it would only work on really strong signals. now its working all over the dial.
the tuner on this thing is actually very sensitive. theres a jazz station i like to listen to (WDNA) here in miami that has a rather weak signal. its my benchmark for how well a tuner works. most of my tuners will normally pull this station in stereo with some hiss in the background. i usually end up listening in mono. the penncrest gets a quiet stereo signal on it with my usual random peice of wire antenna hanging off the back.
output power is a dismal couple of watts. im using a pair of 2 way computer speakers hanging on the wall in my cigar lounge/carport and it barely brings them to good volume.
this might be a candidate for one of those many class D chip amps i have laying around.
