Check your 500c and 800c

I just got another 800c to rebuild for an old friend. While looking inside I happened to notice an rca jack on the rear that 2 others I have worked on didn't have. Does anyone remember seeing this before? Does your machine have it? SN=21701c

My 800C has it, its an output for a center speaker but you need to first run it too a mono amp then into a speaker from what I have heard. Rebuilding another for a friend your a nice guy, don't think I will ever restore another...just spent 4 more hours on mine the other night. I still want to add on the original fisher logo stamped power cord and I need to figure out whats wrong with stereo fm.

My 500-C (S/N 58717) does not have that center channel connection, nor is is addressed in the operating manual.

My 800C Executive has the center channel out ,gave a quick look and the 800B has the center channel out also .

My 800C (s/n 50008) does not have it. It has regular speaker jacks for "Center speaker", as does my 500C (s/n 56393)

Interesting. It is a summed pair of the output, and I agree it would need a second amp. But since it is rigged off the output, it must be controlled by the volume setting as well.
My manuals make no mention of it either. Must have been a late addition, or an early omission.

Oh I'm just getting started. Now that I have done 2 of them, #3 should be pretty easy. I am doing this for my friend because I got him into this mess. He saw my Fisher, and went out and bought this 800c for over $600 bucks. I warned him that I should give it a once over to be sure it was OK, but he was too far away. A couple months later and it began to hum.
I also want to do this one and take a few more photos and notes to better document the process. John

My new to me 500B has it, but it's on the other side of the speaker connectors. I'll have to clean it to read the S/N though.

My 500C, don't know ser.#, has two screw connectors to the left of the impedance selection strip for center channel connection.

It also can be used for the reverb unit. The guy I bought mine from had it but had sold it when he stuck the 500 in the garage.

My 500-C has a center channel output but it's a screw terminal connector like the rest of the speaker outputs. I have it connected to an old Yamaha Natural Sound center channel speaker setting centered on the bridge that spans my desk and a couple of small Interaudio by Bose speakers setting on each end of the desk. I love the sound.

The center channel terminals are connected to the secondary of the output transformers and designed for an 8Ω load so no further amplification is needed.

Well as you can see on this one it is an RCA jack and not for a speaker as far as I can tell. The output from the 16ohm taps is each run through a resistor to the center pin connection of the RCA jack. I did not check their values so it may be speaker level. My 800c has center speaker connections, I will have to see if this one does too.

Sloober,
This is a summed output of the two channels. The X00-B series had them and the 400 had them. They probably discontinued it for some manufacturing or cost reason on this chassis. Perhaps they ordered X number of chassis with the cutout for the RCA jack as a leftover from the 800-B run or some other production run thing like that and then changed the chassis cutout.

Run it to a powered sub and the output level will be continuously variable with the position of the volume knob.

I have a 500C and an 800C, neither one has the RCA center output. They both have the screw terminals though.

I've observed this myself, and AFAIK it's an early build feature actually. My service manual for serial numbers 20001-29999 shows it in the schematic and the 30001-39999 does not.

Tossing in my 2 cents: S/N 20815 does have it.

I like the idea of running a sub off it. Wish I'd 'thoughta that before I wired mine in the hard way...
