Once, long ago, it was cool and trendy to like ND. Today, it isn't. Ce la vie! For the most part, I don't base my opinions on what others think, and I'll confess that I like a lot of "old Neil", too, from Cracklin' Rosie (which brings back good memories) to Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show (catchy, upbeat) to Brooklyn Roads (simply a nice, melancholy ballad). I DON'T like some of his stuff, like Song Sung Blue, which simply got played to DEATH on the radio back in the day, until I'm way too sick of it, even now. LOL I have several of his albums, and they get occasional play on the stereo. My wife doesn't mind him, although she isn't exactly a rabid fan, either. I think like me, she likes some of his songs and dislikes others, but on balance, I probably like more of them than she does.
 
Arkay - Cracklin' Rose was the very first piece of vinyl I ever purchased. In 45 form around 1971 I suppose.

To this day, the only Neil Diamond I've owned.
 
Saw him live shortly after the release of "The Jazz Singer". Fourth row center. Remarkable performance. Wrote an arrangement of "African Suite" for marching band. "Taproot Manuscript" is still one of my favorite albums. He quit being interesting to me after "Heartlight", although his newer work ("Tennessee Moon", etc.) is quite likable. And "Hot August Night" on MFSL Gold is a killer recording.
 
I'm a Diamond fan also. Grew up listening to "Hot August Night" on 8-track while cruising the local strip. He is the only artist that I have ever seen TWICE in concert and was the very best shows that I ever attended - hands down!!! The guy is actually a very good composer as well as a very decent "live" performer. Different strokes for different folks.
