Chicago area Mac tech

So, I recently shipped a Mac 4100 from the west coast to a friend in the NW Chicago suburb of Crystal Lake. Prior to sending it a local tech completely overhauled it and it performed beautifully in my home for a week or so. On arrival there is excessive static when phono 1 or 2 are used. Tried different devices with the same results. All else works great. Can anyone recommend a tech in Chicago or the northwest suburbs that could take a look? I’m guessing the phono stage board got knocked in transit. Thanks.

He a master, the best you'll likely find in the entire midwest. In fact I paid a visit to him a few weeks back, and I noted he had a super spotless Mac 4100 in the rack from a customer waiting in the que to be repaired.

The way Kaspar works, he'll look at the unit with the customer right there on the spot. He has a unique knack of spotting issues instantly. If it's minor, he'll in fact likely do the repair right on the spot. You're in and out.

He's very quick and critical to recognize other work that was done.

He's only open for customers on Fri-Sat, opens at Noon. Usually all his work comes with a one year warranty.

I have had many Fisher and Scott units repaired and restored by Kaspar at Stereo Rehab, as those brands are his specialty. He has also worked on several Mcintosh units for me, and I have been very happy.

Kaspar at Stereo Rehab is great. The place looks closed from the outside, but I could hear music playing, so I opened the door and walked into a welcoming environment. Very cosy; great atmosphere.. Kaspar has his aunt greeting customers, and another helper, Blake, handling logistics and paperwork. They are only open to walk-ins Friday and Saturday starting at noon. I brought my MA6500 in for repair. I waited about 30 minutes and then Kaspar looked at it with me on his bench and knew right away what was wrong. He gave me an estimate and the unit was done in a week for the estimated price with a detailed explanation of what was done. I was expecting at least 4 weeks, but when your unit is ready, you receive an email on Thursday with a link to pay online. I went to pick it up, and Kaspar hooked it up to one of his systems for "audition." I could play whatever I wanted as loud as I wanted. His aunt sells fudge. Delicious. Highly recommended.

I struggle with having in-op McIntosh gear around that I have because I WANT to restore it, and not having the time so it sits for years, good to know there’s someone within driving distance if I ever get impatient enough to have the work done.

Audio Classics is just a little too far to drive for service.

You know MARTROY in Chicago on Kedzie has been there "Forever" and is a McIntosh Service Center from back in the day. Any reason you don 't use them? If you are trying to service a vintage piece, get it serviced from them.
