Chicago/Northwest Indiana Vintage Stereo Gear Shops?

My Spine Is The Bassline
So I've been away from the forums here and vintage stereo for quite a while. Divorce can be a messy thing. But I'm back and ready to rebuild a vintage stereo set-up once again. I was in the Atlanta area for nearly 10 years. I moved back home to Northwest Indiana (about 30 miles southeast of downtown Chicago). Highland, Indiana in particular.

Any AK members in the area? Have any suggestions for reputable shops that sell vintage gear?

Whatever you do stay away from the shop near 63rd and Kedzie or Pulaski. The guy is a butcher. Messed up my Yamaha CA-2010 big time.

Saturday Audio on Belmont (near Wrigley Field) has a lot of used gear. They've been around for over 30 years. Over the years they've become more focused on new gear, but they still have a good used selection.

Audio Consultants is primarily a new gear store, but they also have a good used selection. Their main store is in Downtown Evanston, and they have a few branches, although none in the south.

There is also a tech that had his own business on the North side that takes in stuff, refurbs it, then sells it. He did wonders on the Yamaha CA-2010 I have. He made it sound better than new. Really. Message me if you want his number.

Thanks guys.

And Evanston is not all that far at all. Anywhere in the Chicagoland area is fine by me. Part of the route I use to drive had me all over... Romeoville, West Chicago, Naperville, as well as the southern suburbs.

Simply Stereo, Hoffman Estates.
1280 W Higgins Rd. 847-882-2885
This is a few miles west of Woodfield Mall.

Audio Consultants and Saturday Audio are your best bet. I know that Audio Consultants gives I believe a 90 day warranty on their used gear. Their stores are chock full o mid-fi used stuff.

Decibel Audio on Milwaukee Av. had an entire side of their store devoted to vintage gear. I've not been in there for several years though.
