I heard it on my car radio right after I checked AM to see what was available because of this thread. Thought it was kind of cool when I switched back they where doing a story about Ford and EVs. And I mentioned AM so there is that ;)

I read this as they plan to invent a time machine so they can go back in time and make this possible. Sounds a lot more fun than a brain fart at least.


anyway, a significant investment in a charging infrastructure is the only way widespread EV use will happen. The same thing had to happen with gasoline for cars, coal and water for steam engines and ships, etc. Same story, different fuel.

would probably be an upgrade from the stock driveline anyway. I've been told they don't actually drive all that well anyway, even with more power. The description I got was that it was cooler to be seen driving one than to actually drive it.

verging off-topic, the same transmission used in the DeLorean was used in front of a BMW M21 turbo diesel in a 21 foot motorhome called the Vixen. The M21 is the same engine my Continental has. Which incidentally has fabulous AM reception now that I've had the alternator out of it to polish up the ground contacts. Didn't pull it for that purpose, but I took care of it while I had it apart. Prior it had a nasty whine. The slightly crusty ground connection wasn't enough to affect charging but was certainly enough to dirty up the electrical system enough to make the radio not happy. Considering that EV's regen with their motors I can see a lot of potential for noise generation there too.
 
I once owned what many would say was the worst Volvo ever built, a 1975 Volvo 260 with the dreaded PRV engine. I will say that one of my best memories of that car was an all night road trip to New York listening to Art Bell on AM Coast to Coast. I learned everything there is to know about aliens that night such as how to differentiate between the Greys and the Lizzards, what was really happening out at Area 51, etc. While testing the AM on my new to me Sherwood S-7100 the other night I was pleasantly surprised to find that AM Coast To Coast still exists! That night I learned just what to do if a poltergeist is getting on your nerves. Wonderful entertainment.

The two best for me during the CtC Golden Age of Art Bell were the Al Beleik and John Titor tales.

Thanks for the links, both look like great reads. I just checked youtube and was pleased to find many CtC episodes with Art Bell. Can't beat that stuff when it comes to late night talk radio.
 
Much of radio listening is in cars, AM in particular. I listen during the day at home, but FM. The TV only comes one evenings. FM in the car, not AM so much these days. I don't know what the average person listens to on the go, but I suspect radio still prevails.
Would lack of AM affect my personal vehicle choice? Probably not these days. The average person? Dunno.
