We had 18 major individual domestic US car and light truck brands in 1960 including the short lived Edsel brand there are 9 individual US brands today Not counting US and overseas produced import brands
Admittedly poor management and badge engineering along with global factors played a big hand in their demise something they should have worried about 35-40 years ago.
Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep (Chrysler LLC ) is now mostly owned by Fiat .
GM (for the time being government motors). still owes the taxpayers . Ford is trying to raise capital to pay their private debt down they even mortgaged their blue oval trademark. All three seem to be turning around for now. hopefully all three will succeed and prosper . No political discussion is intended here only business ,automotive and industry trends .
I wonder how many will be left in 5 or 10 years here an interesting article .
