Choosing a vintage Graphic EQ

One key thing to look for is the S/N ratio of the EQ whichever brand you go with. If it's lower than your other sources, it will add noise to the signal. If it has better specs than your other sources, it won't be degrading the sound.
 
It's all very well to say use this one or that especially Pro gear but except for a few Members here on AK the more down to Earth you are the more you will/can learn by experimenting on your own to find out what you really like/need to know.If possible ask friends with Systems or possibly try some of their EQ's in your own home environment.Don't be afraid to try out new gear whatever it may be whenever it is possible without breaking the Bank so to speak.Personal satisfaction in discovering what works or doesn't is the best Teacher one can have.Nothing wrong about asking those who know more than you do but remember their suggestions more than likely they discovered on their own and are based on their own preferences through trial and error,yes more than likely.Whatever you do do it moderately for slow and sure is a lot better than in haste and not to your tastes.The only one who needs to like what you do is you and you alone:)

I have a sansui se-9 when you turn it on the 10khz on the spectrum screen is maxed out and any adjustment makes no difference
any one have a idea how to fix it

You may want to take a look at your signal leads... perhaps one or both are shorted. Also a basic troubleshoot is to remove the unit and test it within another system. Rarely a screen is spent and it made need replacing... sometimes quite challenging,

I would like to find a nice vintage SAE parametric.... but dated EQs with high reliability and minimum abuse are hard to get your hands on these days... for most collectors they are "keepers"!
 
To say how good the equalizer should be first to say what stereo system, and of course what speakers .
I tried Yamaha C60 the preamp use parametr. EQ , the sound is not bad, but without air, score 5 from 10.
after I connected the soundcraftsmen PE 2217 equalizer, that's is real good . If the speakers can play any sound and listen well without EQ , then adding to the circuit EQ its will be better for sound if need it .

I have a gorgeous Onkyo Integra EQ 35 I purchased from Northwinds (thanks, Ron!) about 1 year or more ago.

Have yet to hook it up.

Hoping I can use it to tame some nodes that happen when you stuff McIntosh Isoplanar XRT 20's into a room 11x10.
 
There's a DBX 215 Graphic Equalizer over in BarterTown right now.
 
I have never heard of an Empire Scientific GX-100 graphic equalizer and can find precious little about them on the interwebs. I've noticed that a few members here include the GX-200 in their systems, but I want to know about its silver-faced older sibling. Does anyone have a source for reviews and information (or opinions) on the GX-100? I ask because a local acquaintance has one STILL WRAPPED IN THE ORIGINAL BOX for < $100. Thanks in advance.

i've kind of got one. i bought it bnib a couple years ago. it's a decent eq but it's no frills. it's a 1986 model. i recapped it and gave the sliders a couple swipes each of f5 with mini qtip type swabs just to make sure it's good for 20+ years for whoever buys it. you can get by without a recap but i do recommend picking up some deoxit f5 and treating the slider contacts.

i have the owner's manual but i can't get at it til like the 5th.

i do not know who actually built the eq but i do know the name azden and have owned an pretty decent azden eq back in the 90s . i'm betting on azden but who knows?

i have seen a couple empire scientific eqs that were the same as other manufacturers so...

I have had an ADC SS-525X since it was new. I packed it away about 15 years ago and just broke it back out for use. My problem is in the RTA mode with all settings a flat for the EQ the graphic displays are full. The sensitivity does not change anything even though there is no input signal going in to the unit. Any ideas????

my guess would be crystals with corroded legs. common problem for all the adc/bsr/dbx models with similar features.

there is a crystal for the display driver. it has nothing to do with the tone shaping.

the adc logo has a 24v bulb behind it, it probably burned out.

might be a battery inside that leaked too.
