Does anyone else move gear to guard their safety over the holidays?

I have moved my Thorens TD160/Project 9cc/Sumiko Blackbird rig to the vintage 2 rig to safeguard the unprotected stylus of the blackbird from inquiring fingers over the holidays.

We have 23 coming in tomorrow, with several youngsters, so I moved the rig upstairs, and inserted the Kenwood KD500 with a full dustcover in it's place as a precautionary measure.

Want to ruin a family Christmas? Let a 5 year old destroy a stylus on an $1100 cartridge!
Better safe than sorry IMHO

As a strong believer in "Safety First" I don't use my turntable after I've had more than 2 Drambuie and eggnog, I only play Cd's. If there's no eggnog and i"m into Drambuie on the rocks, I go to the garage and listen to the system out there.

Nobody hurts, nobody cries.
 
Sounds like a smart plan. I only have 1 system and it is in a private room. I keep the door shut and the Grandkids never try to go in that room. Yet!
 
No need to at my house. If any youngsters visit, their parents are instructed to keep them on a leash. :D
 
YES! Learned the hard way, had the family over for Christmas dinner a couple years ago and one of the Nieces or nephews destroyed the stylus on my V15mk5, not sure who or when but discovered it a day or two later, I was not a happy camper but learned a painful lesson. Not sure what it is about a turntable that attracts little hands.
 
No, but I don't have kids.

I do host a faculty holiday party each year (usually 25-40 total), though. Guests are encouraged to spin a few records from the stacks if they so choose, and often many do. Most are musicians and most know the ins and outs of a typical turntable. Last year we had a good laugh when I ventured upstairs to check on things and two good friends and their wives were playing LPs on the Thorens 165/Dynavector 10x5 at 45RPM! I noticed the pitch as I was walking up the stairs and chuckled to myself. I walked right in and reset the speed and they both laughed and remarked that they thought that side 1 went by awfully quick!

Otherwise, I don't loose sleep over it. With little ones about, though, it does seem sensible to put the Blackbird up on a perch for the duration.
 
I combine 3 tables to make room for everyone to sit at a long table that extends from the Dining Room to the Living room, and things do get a bit tight near the Vintage Rig. Today is my family, and we will repeat on Christmas day with my wife's family.

Very Nice, reminds me of the old days in Brooklyn Ny. The Italian Christmas feasts..Start with the Ham then pasta( Lasagna) meatballs , sausages...Oh my I am getting hungry!:D

Yeah it's a lot of work, but it is nice to get everyone together for the Holiday's!
Today it's Sugar Glazed Ham and Chesapeake Hot Crab Balls!Yum :^)
