Christmas songs you never need to hear again

I have nothing to offer but BAD memories of Christmas-Being dragged against my will, into participating at Christmas programs at my Church until I was 16, 17 or so...and then, being shanghaied to Christmas programs at my 1st cousin's school, 'cause it was the Right Thing To Do...My 1st cousin went to a "Chi-Chi" school in Knoxville, it was Full of Little Old Ladies who were vastly wealthy, & gave the school IMMENSE sums of Money...At the Christmas Program, they had the heat set on Mohave Desert-When it was 60 outside-Just so Mrs Gotrocks DIDN'T get the least bit cold...And the WHOLE school-Grades K-12 put on an Extravaganza. Each grade had their own Choir, & after you got to the High School grades, most had 2. Each grade had to sing at LEAST 3 songs, never mind that several of 'em were repeats...After sitting for 2.5 hrs, in a SWELTERING auditorium, w/a shirt. tie, coat on, I was hoping for Nuclear Annihilation...Christmas is not something to be enjoyed, as much as to be ENDURED...

I enjoy Christmas music...but the one song that makes me want to stab myself in the ears with a pencil is hands down.....

Jingle Bells by Barbra Streisand......

:uzi: :pistols:  :twak: :puke:

My wife absolutely hates that song! I found a copy in the GW and I play it whenever I want to annoy her!

I have great sympathy for the retail employees that have to suffer with this crap pumped at them through in store pa systems for 8 hours a day for 6-8 weeks.

Try working in a radio station 4 or 5 hours a day for several years. Not only will you be fed up with holiday music for life, but just about any music that ever charted in the top 100.

I love Charlie Brown Christmas. Just picked up Fourplay Snowbound from library. Fantastic

Not that it gets radio time but I use to hate when my wife put on our John Denver Christmas album with "Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas" usually when she thought I'd had enough :sigh:

Ahh, the joys of the national (world) retail holiday.

There are songs I can't stand and then artists I can't stand:

"LIttle Drummer Boy"....round up every copy in the world and re-cycle them.
I am sure that was used at Gitmo...

"Wonderful Christmas Time"....no it isn't, as long as anyone plays that swill.

Get rid of all the funked-up, souled-up, million-notes-a-minute air raid sirens who mutilate even the nice hymns into submission.

I do find "Silent Night" very beautiful, so I listen to it only sparingly.

My Christmas mix is Frank Sinatra's Christmas album, some by Jim Reeves,
and for the big hymns, Ivan Rebroff.
Since I am Danish, also songs and hymns from at home which, fortunately, aren't known in the US, so I don't get tortured by them endlessly when in stores :D

I like some Christmas music. But the putrid tends to destroy the good impressions from the good songs. I agree with many of the choices here.

The best Christmas Album bar none is "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

The best listens are the Stan Freberg songs and parodies which never out stay their welcome and have something to say that isn't cornball comedy or fake religiosity.

On the other hand the absolute WORST dreck i have ever hear was a Kenny G Christmas album someone gave my ex-wife.

I am sorry some of you had painful Christmases past. I won't go into mine at this point. But I like much Christmas music. Frank, Nat, Mannheim, TSO, Mormon TC, Straight No Chaser, Vienna BC, etc. Some new and old. Oh ran across a surf-guitar cd last year that I enjoyed.
That Grandma got run over song does make me cringe and I am sure I can think of others.
Fortunately I am not over exposed to too much of this stuff, so I can enjoy it when I wish to.

Oh let me hang my balls on your Christmas tree
Hang my balls on your Christmas tree
Please don't put no candles on your Christmas tree
'Cause I don't want my balls on fi-ere!

And another classic:

I found the brains of Santa Claus
Underneath my bed!
You can't imagine my surprise
Didn't even know he's dead!

+1 on just about everything mentioned.
Paul McCartney is awesome but that one is a total clunker.

+1 on can handle the Jim Reeves; we had that on vinyl when I was a kid (we had a 'hi-fi') and my brother gave us cd versions the other year. great memory enhancer.
I dread the top-40 stations getting ahold of Michael W. Smith's 'Christmas' album, esp the song 'All is Well'; would break my heart if they got overplayed.
'2000 Decembers' by Joy Williams is also not yet overplayed.
