Chrysler CE - 3 Speakers

I have a pair of Ce-509 and theyre the best sounding speakers ive ever heard and would never part with them. Has anybody found anymore info or bigger database. In all the info ive found,i can find none of this model. They are much much larger than any ive seen in picks. The pair that Kenrick sound did are the same size far as cabinets,but mine have many more speakers in them.View attachment 723999 View attachment 724000

I have the same CE-509s and I too will never part with them. I got the pair at a thrift store for 48 bucks and they are magnificent. I re-veneered one case but haven't had time to rework the 2nd one. I'll do that in the next few weeks, but I can't fathom why someone would pass on a set. They sound fantastic and they look beautiful, especially since I put all new walnut on one and built a flat base under the original one. They double as furniture and I'm glad I found them. I'm trying to get a 2nd pair right now, but they are a tad smaller. These ones are 40 high X 20 wide X 17 deep. They weigh a ton and they sound great..

I came upon a pair of these in a thrift several years ago. They were in poor condition and I couldn't find any info on them, so I passed. Looks like that was a mistake!

Just an incredible pair of speakers! I've not found a speaker that even sounds close and I mean not even close. It took me years to get up the heart to crack them open and peak inside,they worked flawlessly when I brought them home and since the build quality is so nice I didn't want to dick them up.But last summer I felt it was time to try to clean the grills,NOT easy and stopped after the first one because of how the grill cloth is attached. I wont do that again and regret trying it myself now because I didn't get it back as perfect as original. A few years ago I tried without results to contact anyone I could to find out any info on the 509 exactly. Ive yet to see a pic of a larger set of crysler speakers. With that I would think they were the top of the line. My friends always just shake there heads in disbelief every time we listen to music.

My bro kind of laughed when I told them I saw them at a thrift store for 48 bucks. The grilles were nice but the walnut veneer was pretty trashed. After I rebuilt the one, and he heard it, he thought they sounded good. I think they sound superb, and I'm guessing they were top of the line for Chyrsler Elec. Co. back in the '60s. I wish there was more information out there about them, but unfortunately not much that I've found. All I know is that I'll never sell them. Maybe tomorrow I'll finally reveneer the other speaker and get it finally done. It would be nice to have a matching set. Can you post photos of yours? I'd like to see them.

I purchased a pair of Crysler Electric Ltd CE-509 and a pair of CE-2 speakers (front badge on the grill is "Living Audio") back in January 1969. I have not been able to find much information about the CE-509 speakers, but in the back it is tagged as 50 watts at 16 ohms. From what I remember, it has a 15 inch woofer on a 3-way system. I have forgotten the details about the horn and tweeters. Th main cabinet is 34 3/4 inches high (with toe kick 38 inches high), 16 3/4 inches wide, and 19 3/4 inches deep. The CE-2 units are 50 watts @ 8 ohms, and had 3 different sets of grills. The only details I found on the CE-2 are on this site: https://audio-database.com/CRYSLER/speaker/ce-2a-e.html As for my own experience, I played a lot of music through them in the early 1970s after I came back from Vietnam and was going to college. After getting married, they were not used as much and were stored in a room for years. I have now relocated to a new place and have decided to use the components in my home entertainment system, so research on the components was needed to see how they would work with a new AV receiver. (That is how I stumbled across this website). Yes-- these units are heavy and solid in construction.

Hello everyone. New to AudioKarma.

I rescued a pair of vintage Chrysler CE - 3 speakers from a friend who was cleaning out his basement and was getting ready to throw these away. I was intrigued by the classic 60's style and heavy duty construction of these speakers.

I took them home and besides some dirty pots and missing tone knobs, I was blown away by the incredible sound and dynamic range.

It looks like information on this brand is extremely limited on the net. I have found a couple pages on other models but so far nothing on the CE - 3.

I would love to know more information about these classics as well as the company who built these. The cabinets are built like a tank of 7/8" material the access screws to the back are filled in and appear to be original. Each speaker weighs 60lbs.

Other than the missing knobs, these speakers appear to be very original and unmolested.

Any info on these would be appreciated. Attached is a photo and link to webshots with more.

Bought a pair of these today in Atchison, Ks., from a fellow who bought them new several years ago. He ordered them from a retailer in Canada and remembered the name, but now I don't. He did get inside by removing the back that is screwed on. The fronts are covered with a gold colored mesh and the owner said the fronts can only be removed from the inside and there is a schematic glued to the inside back panel. The cabinets have been through hell, but these have a sound that is hard to beat! Dimensions: 36.5 inches tall with nice gold colored heavy duty casters. 16.5 inches deep and 18.75 inches wide. These are some really big and bad boys. I think I'll try rattling the windows, in my neighbors house!

I just bought a pair of CE-3 speakers as well and pick them up tomorrow. Definitely impossible to find anything about them.

Can anyone confirm the number of drivers? Do they really have 2 12” woofers in each cabinet??

I opened up one of my CE-3’s and thought I’d show some pics since these speakers are pretty much nonexistent. Very interesting. There really are 2 12” woofers in there set back from the tweeters and mids that are built into the grills.
