I recently acquired a nice Citation 1. Before I dig into the electrics of it, I want to get the outside cleaned up. What metal is the faceplate and chassis and what have you guys used with good success on this type of clean-up?

thanks

I'll bet the faceplate is steel. That sucker is heavy.
My faceplate was clean so I just used some Turtle Wax on the unpainted portion to protect it.

If your knobs are goobered up Jim McShane sells replacements. As far as the faceplate, careful there. I think it would be real easy to remove the printing. No even sure how it's applied. Mine is readable but the Loudness area is faded. Readable but faded. Assume it's from cranking up the tunes before I got it. I can only do that when I am home alone...

Good cautionary point.
I used a q-tip very gently when it came to the lettering.

Does jim have a source for the plastic knobs? I'd like to swap out the aluminum ones on the cit III to match the cit I's.

Have not seen the plastic knobs available. Those were on the earliest Cit I's correct. Maroon in color correct? Did the III even ever come with plastic knobs?

They are brown with gold accents. I've never seen a III with anything but the aluminum ones.
I really like the looks of the brown and gold better than the aluminum ones.
