CL: ADS L1290 Towers in Boston

80sKid

Who You Calling A Kid?
These could be gone already as the listing is a few days old (didn't see it until now).

These appear to be in awesome shape.

I remember how badly I wanted a pair of ADS speakers back in the late 80's and how much I loved the sound of these particular towers when I finally got to hear them (driving by an Accuphase amp).

(I never did score a pair of ADS speakers back in the day.)

They don't appear to need repair.

Decent price, eBay price will be 50% more usuallly. Boston seems to have an over-abundance of ADS speakers for some reason..........

A/D/S was heavily sold by Tech Hi-Fi that at its height had the majority of the Boston market.

When I was a store manager at Tech and later owned 3 Tech stores, Tech had a franchise. This was in the '70s. They also had Braun though at only a couple of stores due to the dealer agreement.

That is indeed news to me. Tweeter was the ADS power seller in New England through the 80's & into the very early 90's. The Braun gig was weird. ADS owned the hi-fi side but ADCOM distributed it.

Hello soundmotor I'm working on a craigs list deal on some L1590's. What can you tell me about them? The seller says the mids and tweeters where replaced with new before he put them in storage? When did ADS go out? Why would these need to be replaced? How many ohms are they? Thanks Bill

Yes, Tweeter was the big ADS dealer in Massachusetts in the 80's (they didn't have stores out of Mass back in those days).

I bought my A/V gear faithfully at Tweeter in the 80's. 'Tis a pity they have managed themselves so poorly in recent years and have ended up in a state of bankruptcy.
