Are these considered decent speakers?

They seem to have CTS phenolic ring tweeters. Does anyon know off-hand who made the other drivers?

No pics, sorry. But they have rubber-surround 10" woofers and 4" or 5"mids that were originally covered with flat foam, but has deteriorated away.

Clarke Systems was a small company in Ct in the early-mid 80's. They made several models of which there is not a lot of info. For some reason I have been keeping track of the models that I have seen on *bay and CL. I have seen the 310 Series II (which I believe was the lowest model 3-way) show up around here about four times in the past year and a half. There is a bit of info on AK if you do a search. I have not heard them, but I am in the process of refurbing what I believe is the next model up which has a dome tweeter instead of the cone.
 
Do the woofers seem to be pretty good quality? Are they CTS manufactured, that you can tell?

I saw yours, they definitely look nice! I found it only after posting this....sorry for that.

They made a range of speakers, most of which were covered in Formica -- a little odd, but acoustically a good idea, and pretty darn durable. While they didn't do much that was earth shattering, the ones I've come across were well done mid level speakers. Standard drivers in stout enclosures isn't a bad recipe, and they could do fancier stuff -- the Precedent, which was their top speaker, had a transmission line enclosure for the midrange that also functioned as a front to back brace.
They also made speakers for Leiser super stores and other outfits, I think. I had a pair of HLX (Harry Leiser X) which were very surprisingly nice, though obviously had been loss leaders.
I once found a single very old Clarke speaker that had a label saying they were made in Rhode Island, but every other one was made in Connecticut.
 
I believe they are Gefco, mine are, code #1056. I haven't listened to mine yet, so no opinions......

AK member Octaven may chime in. He has a set of the Precedents that Nat mentioned:12 inch acoustic suspension 3-way with a transmission line mid, 12" Woofer and Audax tweeter.

I think they made larger speakers also. I found one mention of an ebay auction several years ago with this description: Reference Monitor LM:1" dome tweeter, three ribbon tweeters, one 6.5" mid, 2 x 10" woofer, MSRP $0.00, 1981-1986. I would love to seehear those!!

Oops -- my mistake -- not only had I forgotten the Reference Monitor LM, the ad for which, and the discussion about, I now remember from several years ago, but I didn't know about the Premiers. The Precedents listed for 600 a pair, the Premiers, 1000, and the References were 1800. Prices from Orion, late 70s, early 80s dollars.
