Classic Jbl find!

I went picking the other day and found a pair of JBL L26 and a pair of JBL Decade 36. I got both for $50! I was very excited to find the L26's. Both pairs need the woofers refoamed. I have the kits ordered. Does anyone know of a black paint that would match the flat black paint used by JBL for their speakers? I would like to touch up the fronts of these.

Check for posts by that guy called Zonker...I think he found some type of auto paint for just such a thing....BTW.....great find.

Great score!

I use Duplicolor Bumper and Trim paint, from the auto parts store, to paint JBL baffles. It leaves a lovely satin finish, not quite flat, which actually looks significantly better than the JBL flat black. It is extremely smooth and forgiving, almost never runs, and hides fingerprints well.

For photos, check out my thread on my L26s, as well as Obankenobi's thread on his L110s, and mine on my 4435s.

Thanks Zonker92... I'll check it out. I also came away with some great receivers! Sansui G-7000, Marantz 4330, Sansui 8080, Pioneer SX-780, Pioneer SX-650 and a Sansui QR-1500. needless to say, I found a "honey hole" at ridiculous prices. I've been busy cleaning!

Nice! I've been wanting to hear a set of L-26's for a while now. Maybe some day. Once you're done with the surrounds I'm curious to hear how these two pairs compare.

jimhannon welcome to AK. Great Score an all accounts!!!!. Good luck with all you managed to get.

Congrats, great score!

Check out my L36 Decade restoration thread here.

I used Ace InstantDrying Lacquer - Flat Black from my local Ace Hardware store to repaint the front baffles on my L36 Decades. Great results and easy to work with. Here's a photo:

Very nice! You're very lucky to get the tweeters with no pushed in caps, and only minor damage to one mid on the L36. The L36 woofers look pretty funky, got any close up picks with better light? Looks like someone tried to use black caulk on the surrounds.

Yeah I was lucky . I stumbled upon a gentleman who has been collecting anything music related for over 50 years and wants to sell. He took me to his "warehouse " and I couldn't believe my eyes ! This place is absolutely full of equipment and Lp's. Dusty but dry... I've been picking in there twice now and bought 12 receivers and the Jbl's . The Jbl L26's were underneath albums and a turntable . The 36'second were in a corner just buried . I got everything for $525! Next trip I'm looking for turntables . He said there is an upstairs that is full also . He apparently has at least 20 Benjamin Miracord turntables up there but won't go up there till spring. He sold all the tube equipment a couple of years ago .
I will upload a better picture of the L36's. They were taped and spray painted .

Congrats, great score!

I will try to get that done for you . I've got the foam surrounds on the way .

Nice score I wonder if you guys in US know how good you have it when it comes to used audio gear. We pay much more for "deals" up here.
